Hello all! ESN Southampton are organising a daytrip to the historic city of Bath in Somerset. Bath is one of England's oldest and most beautiful cities as well as being just 90 minutes or so from Southampton.
You will be able to visit the historic Roman Baths, home to some of the most extensive Roman ruins outside Italy and a fascinating museum on Roman England as well as Bath Abbey and the beautiful streets and buildings associated with English high society in the 18th century.
We will meet at Southampton Central station at 8:45 and take the 9:10 train to Bath Spa station. Arriving at 10:35, you will be able to either join us in visiting the Roman Baths for some time before having the afternoon to explore or make your own arrangements for activities, be that shopping, dining out or sightseeing. We will take the 19:37 train out of Bath Spa, returning to Southampton Central for 21:03.
This event is absolutely free but you will need to purchase your own train tickets, which will be around £20 return if you have the 16-25 railcard (if you do not, I wholeheartedly recommend getting one as the discount will pay for the value of the card if you take two visits to London or Bristol from Southampton). I also suggest you buy in advance online on thetrainline or a similar website.
Furthermore, in the next few days we will be asking about who would like to join the ESN Southampton group visiting the Roman Baths, joining the group will make it substantially cheaper to enter (£10.75) but will need to be pre-arranged. Additionally I (Tom) will be leading a tour/walk around Bath in the afternoon based on my own knowledge of the area and this will naturally be free of charge.
